Small Parts hosts 22 high school students on Manufacturing Day

LOGANSPORT, IN. October 6, 2017 – Small Parts, Inc. hosted 22 high school students on Manufacturing Day 2017. Juniors and seniors from Logansport, Winamac, Caston, and Pioneer High Schools enrolled in welding and precision machining were invited to spend the day visiting the manufacturing facilities in Logansport. In addition to taking tours in small groups through the stamping, tooling, automation and quality departments, the students spent some time learning about the “soft skills” necessary for the working world from Mike Federspill, the Human Development Manager at MPI Corp.

“Meeting young people with fresh curiosity and ambition is a wonderfully rewarding aspect of my job,” said Mike Federspill. “Having the opportunity to encourage them that they don’t need to worry about not having all of the technical skills, but attitude and character are just as important in their first job. And cautioning them that the culture of the workplace they chose can be just as important as the paycheck.” Small Parts, Inc. operates with a family-owned business culture around their values of excellence and service with integrity.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to host these young men and women at our facility for Manufacturing Day,” said Matthew Lesher, President of Small Parts, Inc. “Not only is this a small way to give back to our community, but encouraging young people to consider future careers in manufacturing is critical for our business to survive.” As one of several manufacturing companies in Logansport, Small Parts, Inc. employs over 220 people locally in many different functions, such as customer service, accounting, sales, and engineering in addition to the machine operator and skilled trades roles traditionally thought of as manufacturing.
